“For the word of the Lord is right; and all his works are done in truth.” (Psalm 33:4, KJV)

My husband and I had to go to the grocery pharmacy. I was very tired, but had to help run this errand. As we waited for the pharmacy to fill my prescription I needed, I thought, “Lord, I am very tired. I don’t want to talk about You right now. I just want to rest.” At my thoughts, my heart was discouraged because we had run to other errands, and I had not mentioned Jesus to anyone. I love talking about Jesus, and when I don’t, my heart fails me, because so many souls are lost, and Jesus is soon to come.

At the cash register, there was a tall, young American man. He was clean cut, which is unusual these days. He seemed too far to reach for Jesus, and I was too tired to talk. I really didn’t know how I could talk to such a clean-cut young man about Jesus. But his face was without life in it.

I took a breath and said to him, “What do you know about God?” He didn’t hear me clearly. My voice was tired, so I had to get closer to repeat what I had said. “What do you know about God?”

“About God?” he asked.

“Yes, about God,” I answered.

“I used to go to church almost every day,” he began to share.

I figured he was a Catholic, so I asked him, “What church was that?” He told me the name of it. Sure enough, it was Catholic.

“Well, that is not where you find God. You have to talk with Him, like you are talking to me right now.”

“Really?” he asked.

“Yes, really. Not only that—He will answer you.”

He said, “I never heard Him answer me.” This made me laugh on the inside, because he seemed so surprised and inquisitive about this.

“Do you know where you can hear Him answer you?”

He softly asked, “Where?”

“In the Bible—He talks back to you when you read the Bible. That is where you will find God.”

By now there was another customer at his side. I didn’t know what to do. So, finally I said, “You take care of that customer. I will stand behind him.” But, when I looked at the customer’s groceries, his cart was loaded. There was no way I could wait until he was finished checking them out.

I looked at the cashier. He had already started to get the groceries from the customer’s cart. But when he saw me, I explained, “I’m sorry. I can’t wait that long.” The young man put the grocery item back in the man’s cart. “Oh no, the customer is going to get mad,” I thought.

This young man wanted to hear more. Taking a look at the customer beside him, I then looked at the young man. He was ready to listen.

“You first have to ask Jesus to be your Saviour. Then you can talk to Him, and He will answer you through His Word in the Bible. Let’s pray.” He stood still. The customer was beside him. I was on the other side of the cash register.

We started praying. The customer beside him stood still, as we prayed. The young man believed in Jesus and gave his life to Him. With bright eyes, he thanked me. Life was in his face. We talked about reading the Bible. He understood what to do.

He started helping the customer beside him. I was amazed that the customer did not complain. I moved a little slowly, as I left. I couldn’t believe what had just happened after being so tired that I didn’t think God would have a soul to save and that He was giving me time to rest.

But as I took a breath, and simply tried to begin to talk about Jesus, God did the rest. I was so encouraged that I left celebrant in Jesus!

My husband and I were so thankful. We left the store with our hearts full with the love of God for souls!

“Abba, Father, I was so tired. But that did not stop You from pursuing the soul in front of me. Jesus, I just couldn’t talk about You that day. But, taking a little breath in You and with a little bit of effort, Your Spirit did the rest, and You saved that young man’s soul. Thank You, Lord, for encouraging me and filling our hearts with Your love for souls!”
