“To the end that my glory may sing praise to thee, and not be silent. O Lord my God, I will give thanks unto thee for ever.” (Psalm 30:12, KJV)

We were at Pete’s Coffee and Tea. After my husband ordered our coffees, I noticed a young girl coming to the cashier area. She was a simple, young American girl. Her attire drew no attention, and she wore no make-up. Yet, she was pretty. She was wearing the smallest, sweetest cross on a chain around her neck. It was very different. It was a little ornate and had small, colorful stones in it. I wondered if she was a Christian.

“That’s a pretty, sweet cross you are wearing,” I said.

She placed her hand on the cross. Smiling, she said, “Thank you.”

“Do you know Jesus?” I asked.

“This was my mother’s cross,” she explained.

“She must be such a sweet woman,” I said, smiling.

“I am not religious,” she commented.

“Oh, I understand; neither am I. Jesus is about your heart, not a religion. He loves you so much!” I told her.

She smiled. “Thank you. My mother is religious,” she said.

“That little cross was meant just for you. You should know the One who hung on the cross for you,” I said. She thought a moment, as she placed her hand on that little cross again. “I can pray with you to help you know Him,” I said.

I glanced to the sides of me to see if there were any customers around. There were customers on every side, but none by the cashier. I knew this was the opportunity to pray with this young girl.

She was now standing directly in front of the cashier stand. “Let’s pray now. You pray with me,” I encouraged.

As customers walked by us, we prayed together. She believed in Jesus as her Saviour, confessed her sin, and gave her life to Him for His glory.

As soon as we were done, she gave a big smile and put her hand on that little cross. She held on to it for a minute in silence. “Thank you. Thank you,” she said.

“You can go to your mother and share with her that you belong to Jesus. He is your Saviour,” I said.

She smiled. “I will.”

The customers and other employees began to circle the cashier area. God was done.

“Abba, Father, what a beautiful little cross that led to this young girl’s salvation. Jesus—the wonder and power of Your cross that brings a soul to eternal salvation! Your Spirit kept all the customers at a distance until this soul was saved. Thank you, Lord, for Your Spirit’s help. How can one stand still before a soul that has just received eternal life in You! One would shout praises to Your Name. My heart is overjoyed, and I will praise You, King and Lord of souls!”
