“He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels.” (Revelation 3:5 KJV)

I glanced at his name tag, as I placed my groceries on the counter. His name is spelled the same in English and Spanish, but pronounced differently.

I addressed him by the Spanish pronunciation. “How are you?”

“Ah, you said my name correctly. Most people say it in English.”

He was wearing a black cloth mask. I felt so sorry for him to have to wear that mask and breathe into that cloth all day, which I believe to be unhealthy.

I looked into his eyes. They looked dark, sad, and weary. “I am okay,” he continued.

“How long do you have to wear that mask?”

“Eight hours. I get very tired of it.”

“I am sorry. I hope that you will be off of work soon.”

“I still have to work more.”

“Have you thought about what the virus is all about?”

“I know that it is very bad.”

“Let me tell you what this is all about. This is a sign that the Son of God is soon to return, just like the Bible says. After this is over, if it ever will be, there will be more events happening, because Jesus is coming soon. Have you heard of Him where you are from?”

“Yes and believe that there is something to it.”

“One thing for sure, you have got to believe in Him as your personal Saviour, so you will know you will be in heaven. You surely don’t want to stay here after He comes and live the worst.”

“No, I don’t.”

“Would you like to ask Jesus to be your Saviour?” I looked around to see if customers were near. Not a one was. I had time to continue talking with him.

“Yes, I would.”

“Would you like for me to pray with you right now?”

“Yes.”

We looked into each other’s eyes, as we prayed. I watched his eyes go from dark to light, filled with hope and relief.

He thanked the Father for His love for him. He believed in his heart and confessed with his mouth that Jesus had died and risen again. He asked Jesus to be his Saviour at His cross, and he confessed his sins and asked Jesus for His forgiveness. He gave his life to Jesus to use for His glory.

“Thank you very much!”

“You are in God’s hands now. He will take care of everything that concerns you.”

“Thank you.”

“Abba Father, how easy it was to tell this man about You. Thank You that I knew how to pronounce his name in Spanish. This opened his heart to listen. Jesus, what a joy it was to watch his eyes go from dark to light, from weariness to hope. Thank You, Holy Spirit, for helping me to tell him about the Son of God in a very simple way. And thank You for giving him ears to hear and a heart to believe. You, God, have known him by name, and his name is in your Book of Life.”
