Because that by reason of him many of the Jews went away, and believed on Jesus. On the next day much people that were come to the feast, when they heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem, Took branches of palm trees, and went forth to meet him, and cried, Hosanna: Blessed is the King of Israel that cometh in the name of the Lord. And Jesus, when he had found a young ass, sat thereon; as it is written, Fear not, daughter of Sion: behold, thy King cometh, sitting on an ass’s colt. (John 12:11-15, KJV)
An Israeli jeweler had his hand-designed pieces delicately displayed. I noticed a donkey charm. I asked him what it was about. He said, “Amidst my work, I place something that would not be the usual attraction to customers, but something that is historically and spiritually significant. I place something that made a difference in my life and to see what special person will notice it.”
He said, “The donkey represents the donkey that Moses rode, which is the same donkey that Abraham rode. Why not a horse? The donkey was representative of the humblest animal a man could own—and the most spiritual because it carried Moses and Abraham.”
I said to him, “Well how do you think the donkey felt when the King of the Jews, the Son of God, rode on it?!” He looked at me in surprise. “Yes,” I said. “The Messiah rode on a donkey when he entered Jerusalem, and the people around Him were joyously crying out, ‘Hosanna, Hosanna to the Son of David!’” He looked at me with hope.
“Just think,” I said. “Yeshua was the humblest in His humanity and the most spiritual, for He is the Son of God.” He looked at me in deep thought.
I opened my Bible and read the scriptures to him as he read the words. Afterward, he looked at me with a big, gentle smile and said, “It is written just as you have said!” We both smiled. That moment he read truth, and it spoke into his life. Hope had entered the jewelry man’s heart through the One who sat on the donkey.
“Abba Father, You wait on Your Word, that You may perform it. We ask, Abba, that in every word that an Israeli speaks, we may hear the one word that gives us the opportunity to listen to their desire to know Your Messiah, King of the Jews. Yeshua, Son of David, do you hear Your own crying out to You in the silence of their words? Use our mouths to speak the name of the One for whom they are looking—Your Name, YOU, Yeshua, King of the Jews!”
