In him was life; and the life was the light of men. (John 1:4 KJV)

This is the fourth time we have had a problem with a new mattress. This is very unusual, since the brand is one of the best on the market. Each time we get one, though, it sinks in on one side. We had to call the service department again to ask about what to do. They said they would send out a representative to take a look at it.

The man who came was a foreigner. He was tall and had very dark skin and curly hair. My husband escorted him up the stairs to our bedroom. They were moving fast. The man seemed to be in a hurry. I continued working in my office, wondering if I would have an opportunity to tell him about Jesus.

After he was done checking the mattress, he rushed downstairs. He was on his way out the door. I quickly asked him, “Is it difficult for you to go into different homes?”

He looked at me. His eyes were so spiritually dark that I did not want to make further conversation, but it was too late. Oh Lord, I am not good at this when someone looks so spiritually dark.

“Yes, it is very hard to go into different homes. You never know about the people. Usually, they are not very nice. But to see people like you, makes it very good.”

“Where are you from?”

“Ethiopia.”

“Have you heard about Jesus in your country?”

“Some people are Christian Orthodox.”

“What about you? Do you know Jesus? He is the only way to heaven. This virus situation is a sign that He is coming back. You surely don’t want to stay here.”

“No, I don’t.”

“Would you like to pray to ask Jesus to be your Saviour? He is the one who died on the cross for your sins, because He loves you.”

“Yes, I would.”

“Let’s pray.”

He bowed his head and believed in Jesus as the Son of God, who loved him and gave His life for him on the cross for his sins. He gave his life to Jesus for His glory.

“Thank you.”

“God is with you now. He will never leave you nor forsake you.”

“Thank you.” He was smiling widely.

“Abba, Father, this is the fourth time there has been a problem with a mattress we have purchased. Each time a store representative comes to see about it, they believe in Your Son.  I didn’t think this man would be willing to hear about Your Son. Jesus, his eyes were so spiritually dark. It drew me back. I had to take courage. But no darkness can exist in Your presence. You are the light of men. I thank You, Holy Spirit, for giving me the courage to continue a conversation with this man—another soul for You, Jesus!”
