“For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.” (1Corinthians 1:18 KJV)

As we approached a young man, I said, “I see that you are wearing two necklaces with a cross and a cross on your ring.”

“Ahhh . . .” he smiled. “You noticed the one on my finger.”

“What do you know about the cross?” I asked.

“Nothing. I just like to wear them.”

“Do you not know it was the Son of God who hung on the cross for your sins and mine?”

He was silent as he checked our groceries at his cashier counter. Then he said, “No, I did not know that.”

“Well, why do you think all this is happening with this virus?” I asked.

“Ahhh . . . I don’t know.”

“It is because Jesus died on that cross for your sins and mine. And He rose again from the dead. He’s alive! And guess what? He’s coming back. This virus situation is another sign that He is coming again. Would you like to know Him?”

“You know, I think that I would,” he said.

“Would you like for me to pray with you now?”

Just as I asked him this, a customer came behind him. I was not sure if I would have his attention, but much to my surprise, this did not distract him. His focus was on our conversation.

“Yes, I would.”

He stopped working and started to pray with me. He believed in Jesus as his personal Saviour and Lord. He confessed that He is the Son of God, that He died and rose again. He asked Jeus for forgiveness for his sins at the cross and thanked Him for His love for him. He asked the Lord to take his life and use it for His glory.

This young man almost climbed out from behind the counter to shake my hand and thank me. He was smiling big! He was so joyful! It seemed as if the whole area was filled with the joy of his salvation!

“Now you have a reason to wear the cross!” I exclaimed.

“Yes, I do!” he replied, delighting in His Saviour.

“Abba, Father, how easily and quickly this young man believed in You! Those crosses that he wore on his jewelry gave me a way to tell Him about You. Oh, that I could walk everywhere and ask people if they want to believe in Your Son. Jesus, he was so joyful to know You as his Saviour! Your Holy Spirit, Father, is helping those You have drawn to Your Son make the decision for salvation in Him! This virus situation is making it easy for so many to listen to the truth about You. How wonderful are Your works!”
