Are not five sparrows sold for two farthings, and not one of them is forgotten before God? But even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not therefore: ye are of more value than many sparrows.  Also I say unto you, Whosoever shall confess me before men, him shall the Son of man also confess before the angels of God: (Luke 12:6-8 KJV)

I joined my husband in looking for a pair of jeans. As we walked into the store, I was already tired due to my body struggling to sustain my spine. So, I looked for a chair in which to sit and wait for him.

There were two chairs away from the main part of the store. “Ah … a chair! Thank you, Lord!”

After I regained my strength, I decided to get up and look for some hairbands. I have to wear my hair much shorter now because I have lost a lot of it. Hair pins and bands help keep it up to make it look a little better.  And, the Lord is restoring it as He is healing me.

As I was looking at all the hairpins and bands, there was one holder that held four small bands, but it was way too high for me to reach. As I was enjoying looking at all these pretty and colorful hair accessories, a young woman came to look at them as well.

It is hard for me to turn my neck at a full angle right or left. So, I kind of glanced at her and told her that I was interested in some bands, but they were too high for me to reach. I asked her if she could reach them for me.

“Of course, which ones are they?” she sweetly asked.

Just as she began to reach for them, a man’s voice behind me said, “Let me get those for you.”

I turned all the way around to look at the man. He was a giant! “Oh my goodness, you are sooo tall!” I said in surprise. He smiled, reached for the hairbands, and handed them to me.

Smiling, the young girl said, “That’s why I keep him around.”

I added, “And I am sure for many other reasons.”

She answered, “Yes, that is true.”

We both kept looking at all the hair accessories. I had to turn my body all the way around to look at into her eyes. She was a very pretty girl. She had a very white complexion and lovely blue eyes. I asked what she thought of another pair of bands. She said that they may wear out or burst. She then began to teach me about hairbands: which ones would last, which were good for fine hair, which would break, which had metal or wire on the inside. I had no idea that there was so much to consider when choosing hairbands.

As we went through the hairbands, I could not turn fully around to look at her as we talked. She shared, “My hair is so thin, so I wear these.” She showed them to me. “Some of my friends wear these, because the little holes in the fabric hold fine hair better.”

I then shared with her, “I used to have thick hair. I could not get my fingers through it.”

“I gotcha,” she replied.

“But then, I got sick and I lost a lot of it,” I shared with her.

“Gotcha,” she said.

“But God kept my life so He can do with it what He wants.”

“Gotcha,” she said again.

“So you must know Jesus too?” I asked her.

“Ah, well, my mother is like that. She is from Ireland.”

“Is she very religious?” I asked.

“Well, not really. She is kind of Methodist and Protestant,” she tried to explain.

“Oh, does she know Jesus?” I asked.

“Well, she is more like Protestant.”

“Well, what about you? What are you?” I asked.

“Well, when I was a little girl, I went to church. But I don’t believe all this about a church,” she said.

“Well, God is not about church. He’s about your heart.”

I turned around to focus on her. And, oh my goodness, her whole face, up to the top of her ears was ever so red! I didn’t know what to think. So, I just kept on talking about Jesus. “Have you ever asked Jesus to be your Saviour?” I asked.

“Well, when I was a little girl, and I still do every day,” she shared.

“Have you asked Him to be your Saviour and the Lord of Your life? Have you talked with Him just as you and I are talking?” I asked her.

“No, I have not,” she responded.

“Well, we are going to settle this once and for all so that you won’t have to ask Him every day, so that you can be assured that He is your Saviour and that you will go to heaven,” I told her.

She nodded her head to say yes and then said, “Okay, let’s do it!”

“Are you ready?” I questioned.

“Yes, I’m ready!” she exclaimed eagerly.

“Would you like for me to pray with you right now?” I asked her.

“Oh yes, let’s do this. I am ready!”

As we prayed, her eyes were fixed on mine. The red coloring of her face turned to her normal complexion. As soon as we said amen, she was elated with joy!

“Father, Abba, who would have thought that my husband’s need for a pair of jeans and my getting a little rest to regain my strength would have given me the stamina needed to stand at the place where hairbands were for so long just to meet up with this young woman who You, God, had prepared by Your Spirit to believe in Your Son! Lord, Jesus, I thank You that Your Holy Spirit put it in my heart to go look at hairbands. I thank You, Lord, that you know the number of hairs on our heads and that you are the restorer of all! And You, Jesus, were with me to help me by Your Spirit to give me the strength in my spine to hold me up to tell this young woman about You. To confess You before men and a soul is saved, all the angels rejoice! Lord, surely, her mother had been sharing Your Word and praying for her since she was a little girl. Your Word does what You say it will and accomplishes what You say! – Saved for eternity and for Your glory!”
