“Jesus answered and said unto him, ‘Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.’” (John 3:3, KJV)

In the beginning of my health situation, I was unexpectedly admitted into the ER. Everything was going so fast: doctors, nurses, needles, IV’s. All I could think of was, “Do these doctors and nurses know Jesus?”

They cared for me as if I was the only patient they had. I asked the male nurse who was assigned to me why he looked so down. I told the rest of the staff that God was with me. While they were concerned about my life, I was concerned about their eternal life.

The admitting doctor was called in. The look on his face was very serious. He placed his hands together as if praying and paced. He then very caringly and sweetly explained to me my condition and that I had to stay with them a few days. So I was admitted into the hospital. I wondered if he knew Jesus. Unable to interfere with what they were doing, I had to keep still.

My husband and I were escorted to the room I was going to stay in. I was rolled in on a bed with my husband walking beside me. Much to our surprise, the room was an attractive suite with a lovely, mountainous view. This was God’s way of caring for me and my husband in the unexpected circumstance.

God’s peace was present, and we were not alarmed. We were just going through the situation, trusting that God was with us. I was not thinking about anything. I kept silent and still and prayed.

Immediately, a nurse technician entered the room and said to me, “Don’t you worry about anything. If you have faith, God will see you out of this. If God wants you by His side, then He will call you to Him.”

I asked her, “Do you know Jesus?”

She said, “I do.” I asked her what church she went to. She said that she used to go, but doesn’t now, but that her mother goes, and she would ask her mother to pray for me. I didn’t have to be concerned about her salvation, and I was thankful to know that God had sent a Christian to welcome me into the hospital room.

The next day, another nurse technician was assigned to me. She was very peaceful. She told me that she did not work in that department, but that she was sent to help. She then told me, “Don’t  you think the worst. You are not going anywhere this year. I am an assistant to the doctors handling this disease, and I have seen so many miracles.”

That evening when she came to check on me, she told me, “The greatest power that you have is prayer and believing.” I knew God was encouraging me through this nurse. As she quietly worked on me and believed God on my behalf, I saw my blood pressure go down to normal! I was so caught by surprise. Again I was thankful that God had sent another Christian to care for me.

The third day I was there, a medical specialist who worked with this disease came to see me. My husband and I listened to her about what could be done. This doctor was young, sharp, quick, intelligent, and full of life and enthusiasm. She advised us not to listen to what anyone said about this kind of disease. She said, “They don’t know what we do. We are doing amazing things with it.” She caught our attention as the three of us talked and shared about my health situation. We shared of all that God was doing in Israel in the same medical study of the disease.  We then talked about Israel and our ministry.  She was very interested and excited to hear about the work that God was doing through our lives.  We then talked about her medical experience.  This specialist had a very keen awareness.  My husband and I were very encouraged as we engaged in further conversation.

I was not sure what to think. All I knew was that Jesus is the healer. We have to go through His plan for my life and must depend on Him for wisdom for the threat to my life, since my life is His. My husband and I were trapped in the “flames” of this unexpected situation, but we knew that Jesus was in the fire with us.

On the fourth day of my stay, this same specialist came to see me again. She, again, was full of enthusiasm! I was impressed with her attitude and encouragement. And I wondered if she knew Jesus.

She was so bright and intelligent that I asked myself how was I going to be able to tell her about Jesus. I had to say something.  So, I simply asked her if she knew Jesus. She said that she goes to a Bible church. It happened to be a church that we have heard about, and it is a very good one.

She explained her heart interest in God and the Bible and said, “But I am not one of those born again.” She was very grounded in her understanding of where she was in going to church.

I said to her, “It’s good that you are attending a very good Bible church. But have you ever prayed to ask Jesus to be your personal Saviour? You need to know Him as your Lord.”

She thought for a minute and responded, “No, I haven’t.”

I gently said, “You and I are going to pray together and ask Him.” Before I knew it, she placed her hands in mine so gently, and, like a child, she surrendered her life to Jesus as her Saviour, receiving His love and forgiveness as she gave her life to Him.

In a deep stillness and sincerity, she held my hands tightly for a moment and thanked me. Her face was full of appreciation, as she repeated her thanksgiving, saying, “Thank you. Thank you, so much.” She was in such deep, sweet gratitude that I was silenced. Her eyes focused on mine, as she humbly received God’s truth.

There I was in a hospital bed with this doctor’s hands in mine as God, the Father, by His Spirit, revealed His Son, Jesus, to her, and she became His child for eternity.

Later, a nurse who was from China was assigned to me. She happened to be a Christian and was attending the church we used to attend. Her care of me was intimate and very special. I shared with her that the care that she was giving was like no other, because hers were the hands and feet of Jesus, and that she was giving the Gospel of Christ in her service to care for others. She cried and said that she would always remember my words. We prayed together for a miracle in my life.

The next day, a woman in a doctor’s white coat was making her way into the room. I could not look at her, nor could I keep from looking at her. She looked very indescribably different. She was dark-skinned and seemed to have a fire to her countenance. Her smile was bright and radiant. She walked up to the computer where my daily records were journaled.

She said, “One day this disease has to bow down to the Name of Jesus. I don’t work in this building. I was sent here. This is a divine appointment. You will be a miracle and a testimony to all of this. Start writing some of this.” She then said, “I have to go. I have a job to do.”

Several doctors of various specialized medical fields came to see me. Each one was a skilled expert and very kind.  God was giving me the very best care.  I said to each of one them that I was a Christian, that I believed in Jesus, that I was praying and depending on Him.  I wanted to share more, but my condition kept me quiet. One of them, smiled very joyfully and said that it must have been a surprise to me to have ended up staying in the hospital when I had just come in for tests. We both laughed.  I was so surprised to hear the doctor with the strongest personality, with whom I would speak very clearly about knowing Jesus, tell me that she wasn’t working the next shift and that she was going to miss me.

The nurses cared for me with special attention. One was American. The others were from a different country. I loved them all!  In my weakness, I told each of them about Jesus. Had I more strength, I would have done more. But, I had to stay still.  They listened attentively. One, would come in just to hear more and ask questions. Another, cared for me so deeply. She surprised me when she came to say good-bye and did not want to leave me.  Another, could not stay away. She would rush from her lunch break just to come see me. She said that she wanted to be like me when she grew older. One nurse in training was a Christian. I met her on her first day of training. I had the opportunity to pray with her about her career as a nurse for Jesus.  She said that she would always remember me because of praying with her on her first day as a nurse. One of the last nurses that I saw was the eldest of them.  I could tell that she felt alone and lonely.  She needed to know that she was appreciated in the Lord. I encouraged and thanked her for her personal and unselfish manner of caring for me with such humility.  I would ask her to sing Christian hymns in her language.  She too believed in Jesus. She almost started crying when I told her that I was leaving. She asked me if she could hug me and she did!  She said that she was going to miss me because she knew that from the day that we met that there was a special connection. That of course was the fellowship in the love of Christ.

I was out of bed and walking, waiting to be released. The last doctor that came to see me was from India.  She was very friendly. I drew near to her. I told her about Jesus, His love, and His cross. She took a few steps back, toward the exit of the room. With her eyes fixed on me, she said, “I can see this in you, and it is very strong.”

I’m not sure what to think about everything. All I know is that Jesus took all sicknesses and diseases on His body to the cross and that my only hope was in Him. I had to go through all that I needed medically, trusting and believing that He would do for me what He did for the people in the Bible, because the Bible says that He is the same yesterday, today and forever.

“Abba, Father, what a difficult circumstance that was! But You sent Your own special individuals to care for me and encourage me. How You surrounded me with such personal care! You even took care of the room situation. What a blessing that was! I loved everyone who cared for me. You gave me the strength to tell about Your Son. I dreamed of going back to tell them of what You have done! I am sure that what they will miss is not me, but your presence and love for them.  Lord, what a personality and heart of hope You have given to the young specialist. You used her to direct us to the care I needed next. What more will You do with her now that she has believed in Your Son? Lord Jesus, You are with me wherever I am, strengthening me and my husband by Your Spirit, seeing us through and out of the fire, as You encourage and save the souls around us whom God the Father has drawn, glorifying Your Name, Messiah! Thank You for what you did on the cross. When we are weak, You are strong! Thank you, Holy Father. Thank You, Lord Jesus, for Your mercy and loving care of me. You will never leave me nor forsake me. You are faithful.”
