We made a quick stop at the grocery store. When we were ready to check out, I looked at each of the cashier stands and asked the Lord, “Which one, Lord?” In a moment, a young woman opened a cash register that was not being used. I took a good look at her and knew that was where I was to go.

As the young woman checked out our items, I noticed her name. I asked what her name meant and where she was from. She replied, “Egypt.”

I said, “That is a very interesting place. What do you know about God from your country?“

She was silent in thought for a minute, then said, “I know that He is always there.”

I agreed with her. “Yes, this is true. He is always there. Do you know who He is?”

She looked into my eyes and said, “No.”

I asked her, “Would you like to know who He is?”

With eagerness she responded, “Yes, I would!”

I shared with her, “God has a Son. His Name is Jesus Christ. He loves you, and He wants you to know who He is. Do you think that you may want to talk with Him and pray for you to know Him?”

The look in her eyes grew very serious, and she said, “Yes, I would.”

I said, “Okay, let’s pray.” While she was bagging our groceries, we were praying. Now another customer—an older woman—lined up behind us. I wondered what she would do. She stayed focused on our conversation and was not distracted. But I myself did not know what to do, because I did not want the customer to wait on us and wondered what the woman might say.

We continued to pray. When the Egyptian woman heard the name of Jesus in prayer, she said, “Wait. There is a slight difference—Jesus, the Son of God.”

I said, “Yes, He is and He wants you to know Him. It’s okay. He is the only way to Heaven. There is no other way. He died on the cross for your sins and mine.” She was amazed on learning this and was assured, I know, only by the Spirit of God.

We continued to pray. She confessed Jesus as the Son of God and her Saviour. She asked for forgiveness of her sins. I waited to see what she would do or say. She was silent for a moment and began to smile and thanked me. A peace came over her countenance.

I said, “Now you know who is always there with you. He will never leave you, nor forsake you. You can talk with Him about everything.” She became very joyful! I said, “You see, it is not complicated to know the Son of God, Jesus, who loves you. Now no one can take you out of His hands, not even you!”

She said, “That is amazing! I want to thank you.”

By now the customer behind us was growing a little impatient, so we hurried out of the way. The young Egyptian woman and I hugged. I told her that I would come and see her again. Her eyes were ever so joyful and free. She looked at me as we were walking out and said, “Yes!”

“Abba Father, I was not sure what to say to this young woman from Egypt. Lord Jesus, she was so ripe to know the God who was always there. I was rather surprised when she waited for clarity that You are the Son of God and by how ready she was to accept this truth. Holy Spirit, it had to be You who spoke to her about the Son of God and gave her assurance, because what could I have said?”
