We approached a cashier at a grocery store; she was a young woman with a sweet smile. I asked her where she was from. I also asked her if she had ever heard about God in her country. She answered, “I used to go to church every day.” That surprised me.

I said, “Every day! This means that you have had a heart for God.”

“Yes, I do,” she responded.

Just then, a woman with very intense eyes came between us. It kind of scared me, and I wondered what was in her. I didn’t think that I would be able to go forward for this salvation, because I was afraid of this woman. She seemed to be one of the managers. She began to bag my groceries. I was not sure what to do to continue my conversation with the cashier, because this woman was right between us. But I had to pursue that soul!

Quickly I said, “I will help her bag my groceries.” The woman looked at me with those intense eyes. I drew back a little. I was not sure what she was going to say or do. After looking at me, she took a bag and began to put my groceries in it.

Again I said, “I will help her.”

The woman looked at me again and said, “Thank you.” And she moved aside and left.

I drew near to the young cashier and asked her, “Would you like to know the Son of God, Jesus, who loves you and died on the cross for you?”

She looked at me and said, “Ahh, what will this be?”

I told her, “Don’t be concerned. We are just going to talk to God, just the way you and I are talking.”

She smiled and said, “Okay.”

I asked her, “Would you like to pray with me, talking with Him to believe in Jesus?”

She smiled again and said, “Yes.” I drew closer to her. She was checking out my items, and I was putting them in the bags. We were standing very close to each other.

We started praying, and she glanced at my eyes as we both worked and prayed. For a moment, we stopped and smiled together. She thanked me, and we rejoiced together, while God continued to cover us as we talked about reading the Bible.

“Abba, Father, thank You for this soul that You had been drawing to Your Son for her salvation. I was afraid, Father. Jesus, how wonderful it is to tell about You when I least expect an opportunity and even when I’m afraid—and to trust You to cover me. Spirit of God, thank You for helping me to tell the woman with the intense look that I would help with bagging my groceries. Thank You for giving me courage.”
