And Jesus, walking by the sea of Galilee, saw two brethren, Simon called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea: for they were fishers. And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men. And they straightway left their nets, and followed him.” (Matthew 4:18-20 KJV)

At this store, the cashier was a young man. The one who was helping him by placing the items into bags was also a young man.

As I approached them, they seemed too young to have a quick, serious conversation with. But I had to give it a try.

“How are you?” I asked the cashier.

“I’m okay.” He was full of youth and eagerness.

“I see that your name is a good name to have. It is the name that God wanted you to be named.”

He smiled. “Thank you.”

“Do you know God?”

“No.”

“Well, you should. After all, He knows you by name.” He smiled.

“Do you know that God loved you so much that His Son died on the cross for your sins so that you would be in heaven with Him?”

“No, I did not know that.”

“Well, you do now. If you want, I can help you to know Him. Would you like that?”

“Yes.”

“Would you like for me to pray with you?”

“Yes.”

We prayed, as he acknowledged God and His Son. He believed in his heart and confessed with his mouth that Jesus is the Son of God and that He died and rose again. He asked Jesus for forgiveness of his sins and gave his life to Him.

I noticed that the young man who was putting the groceries in the bags looked very serious. He had been attentively listening to us.

“Would you like to give your life to Jesus too?”

“Yes!” He was so excited.

“Okay, let’s pray.” He too prayed, receiving God’s love for him and accepting His Son as his personal Saviour. He confessed his sin at the cross and gave his life to Jesus.

“Thank you,” he said, with a big smile.

The other young man thanked me as well.

There they both stood, now both saved!

“Abba, Father, I thought these two young men were too young to listen to a serious conversation or would be uninterested to hear about You and Your Son. Jesus, I was so surprised that You had two souls in front of me that You wanted for Yourself. Thank You, Holy Spirit, for helping me not let my thoughts keep me from engaging in a conversation with them about Jesus. Two young disciples for You, Lord—reminds me of the story in the Bible when you called Peter and Andrew to follow you. May these two follow you, Lord Jesus. They are in your fisherman’s net, Your Holy Spirit.
