“But when he saw the multitudes, he (Jesus) was moved with compassion on them, because they fainted, and were scattered abroad, as sheep having no shepherd. Then saith he unto his disciples, The harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few; Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth labourers into his harvest.” (9:36-38, KJV)

When we first started buying groceries to stock up for the coming coronavirus lock-in, one of the stores we go to had a lot of customers, but there was a silence. The cashiers’ faces looked worried and afraid.

I asked the cashier who was to check our groceries, “Do you know why all this is happening?” She looked very nervous.

“No, why?” Her voice was a little shaky. Just as I started to answer her, several customers lined up behind me. She had to help the next customer.  I couldn’t continue the conversation.

Then a young woman came to help put the groceries in bags. “Do you want to know why all this is happening?” I asked her.

“Why?” She quickly responded. “Because Jesus is coming,” I explained.

“I believe this may be so,” she said as she nervously put the items in bags.

“Have you asked Jesus to be the Saviour of your soul?” I asked.

“No, I have not,” She answered.

“Would you like to do that now? I can pray with you if you would like.”

She stopped putting the items in the bags, “Yes, please, I would.”

By now there were so many more customers, and everything was moving fast. “Let’s pray,” I said. She stood still as we prayed, asking Jesus to be her Saviour, forgive her of her sins, and use her life for His glory.

“Thank you very much,” she said after we finished praying. She was calm. Her eyes had a sparkle. She smiled with relief. I smiled with her. “Thank the Lord,” I said.

The cashier that I still could not get to because of the long line of customers kept turning her look toward us and listening. I hoped that she understood and made the same decision.

My husband put the bags in the cart and started walking toward the exit. I looked around at all the people. Their faces looked fearful. I felt so much concern for them. I didn’t know what to do. I could not get to them one-on-one. So, I walked by the cashier counters saying loud enough to be heard, “Jesus is coming, Jesus is coming.” I felt a little awkward as I did this. People stood still and looked in my direction as I continued walking toward the exit door to catch up with my husband.

“That was such a sweet salvation. That girl was so ready. She prayed so sweetly,” My husband said smiling.

“There were so many ready!” I exclaimed.

I wanted to go back inside and ask everyone if they wanted to believe in Jesus. Lord, help!

God’s harvest was everywhere! “Oh, God in heaven, send more laborers into your harvest. It’s time! May we, Your people,  seize the moment! And, Jesus, may our nets burst!”

“Abba, Father, what are You preparing us for? More unexpected horrific events, our repentance for our personal and national sins, Your harvest of souls, and then the rapture? Jesus, cause us to turn back to You, Messiah. And then use our lives for Your soul-saving. God, protect us from the virus. And in your mercy, deliver us from it. Holy Spirit, help us to open our mouths for God to fill them. Help us to have the courage to take the risk to tell about salvation in the Son of God. And, Jesus, burst our nets with souls!”
