Star (of David), our Golden Retriever, had her six-month comprehensive check-up. After we picked her up, she was still drowsy from all the shots and the work-up that was done on her. After a couple of hours, she began to eat, but started choking and hyperventilating. We thought that it was because she had eaten her food too fast.

As we held her, then watched for a while, she started hyperventilating again and heaving. I called the veterinarian to tell them that it seemed that Star was having a reaction to the shots. This was the first time she had had a reaction. I was told to bring her to them right away. We were told that they would be open one more hour.

My husband and I rushed her there. On the way, Star seemed to be just fine. When we arrived at the vet’s, they were waiting for her. She was taken behind closed doors for a check on her vitals.

As we awaited, we prayed. The male nurse came in to inform us that she seemed to be doing okay. Then the vet came to let us know that all her vitals were fine. She made some suggestions and gave us some information. The nurse then told us that there was an emergency charge. That stumped us because we were told that if she had any reactions to the injections to let them know right away and bring her in.

My husband explained to the male nurse that this was not an emergency outside of what we were told to do if Star had a reaction. The nurse said that my husband had to talk with the veterinarian. We waited and waited and waited. We were growing impatient due to our being so tired and it already being evening.

In a moment, the thought came to me, “Lord, Star is fine. This must be about a soul. Who is it Lord—the vet … the nurse?”

We were still waiting to talk with the vet, and I thought, “Well, it must not be the veterinarian whom I need to talk to about Jesus. It must be the nurse. I told the nurse that he was very helpful, and I thanked him. I told him, “The Lord bless you this coming year. Do you know God?”

He said, “My grandmother used to talk to me about Him.”

I asked him, “Did you ever pray with her to believe in Jesus as your Savior?”

He shyly replied, “No.”

I said, “Well, we are going to pray right now. No one knows what we are talking about. So, let’s pray.”

As he was praying, a girl came to interrupt. He said, “Ah, just a moment.”

I looked at the girl and said, “Just a minute, please.” She persisted in interrupting. Again I said, “Just a minute please.” The nurse looked at her and me, and I said, “Let’s continue.” We continued praying. With a smile and sparkling eyes, he received Jesus as his Savior! Joy!

I asked him if he had a Bible. He said that he did and that his grandmother used to read it to him. I told him where to start reading and said, “Your grandmother did a great work!”

“Abba, Father, how you used Star to get us to the vet again!”

“Jesus, thank You for giving us Star. She has been a blessing. And thank You for using her to win souls to You!”

“Holy Spirit, thank You for giving us the patience needed and the thought that this situation was about a soul.”

Another soul for Jesus! Another stone for Your crown, King! For Your glory and honor, Son of God!

To whom coming, as unto a living stone, disallowed indeed of men, but chosen of God, and precious, Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ. 1 Peter 2:4-5

But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honour; that he by the grace of God should taste death for every man. Hebrews 2:9

I say unto you, that likewise joy shall be in heaven over one sinner that repenteth, more than over ninety and nine just persons, which need no repentance. Luke 15:7

Likewise, I say unto you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner that repenteth. Luke 15:10

And not only so, but we also joy in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom we have now received the atonement. Romans 5:11
