“In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.”  (Proverbs 3:6, KJV)

We were checking out some groceries at Harris Teeter’s. The cashier was very young. I noticed that she had drawn the eyeliner on her eyelids perfectly. I said, “I like the way you wear your eyeliner. It is very pretty.” She thanked me. I asked her, “How long have you been working at this store?”

Without looking up at me, she answered, “A few months.”

“Do you like working here?” I asked.

“Yes, it’s okay,” she responded.

“Are you in school?” I continued.

“Yes, I’m in high school.”

I said, “Well, that’s nice. Do you like school?”

“Yes, it’s okay.”

She continued checking out our items. I didn’t know what else to say to get into a conversation about Jesus. So, I didn’t ask any more questions. As I waited silently asking God for help while she finished checking the items, she unexpectedly blurted out, “I hate this job, and I hate school!” She was now looking at me.

“Well, what would you like to be doing?” I asked.

“I don’t know! I have no idea what plan I should have for my life!”

I told her, “Well, you know who knows the plan for your life? All you have to do is ask Him.”

Still looking at me, she asked, “Who is that?”

I said, “He’s the Son of God. His name is Jesus.”

“Oh, my mother is like that,” she said.

“What do you mean?” I asked her.

“She always talks to me about God,” she responded in frustration.

“Well, have you talked to Him yourself?” I asked.

“No,” she responded.

I said, “Listen, if you don’t like what your life is like now, maybe you should ask Jesus what plan He has for you. He will answer you. But you must know Him first. You have to ask Him to be your personal Saviour and Lord of your life. Would you like to do that?”

“My mother talks about Jesus too,” she commented.

“Well, it’s time that you listen to Jesus yourself,” I told her.

“Would you like for me to pray with you right now?” I looked around to check for customers nearby. There were none.

“Yes, I would,” she, surprisingly, responded.

“Let’s pray,” I said.  Immediately, she started praying with me, asking Jesus to be her Saviour.

Afterward, she smiled in relief, and her smile grew bigger.

“You have eternal life in Heaven now. And you can go tell your mother.” She smiled again. “God will guide and direct your life as you read the Bible,” I told her.

“I will read it!”

“Abba, Father, this young girl was in such need of knowing that there was a plan for her life. Most of all, the plan that You had for her was her eternal salvation. Jesus, thank You for eyeliner! What You use to start a conversation that leads to salvation is surely by Your Holy Spirit! Just as perfect as she draws that line on her eyelids, Your plan for her is a perfect path for her life in You and a straight line to heaven!  Thank You for working in this young girl’s heart about You, when I did not know what more to say. You used her need to speak out and help me. Her mother can now rejoice. Her labor for her daughter’s soul has been answered. I praise You, Holy Son of God!”
