After-Christmas sales can be a blessing! Since my physique went through a change due to my health situation and my inability  to exercise, I grew sideways! So, I had to look for another size in clothing. It’s hard when you have to change sizes. You have to start all over again with clothing!

A store that I like had some good deals not only because of the after-Christmas discounts but also because the store was closing. So, I wanted to take advantage of the sales.

There was a certain vest I liked, but it was not in my size. A lady that worked there asked if I needed some help. I told her that I needed the vest in what was now my new size.

She looked in the computer and found that there was one somewhere. So, she went to the back area where they have packaged clothing. It took a little while for her to get back. I wanted to tell her that it was okay; I was ready to leave the store. But I had to wait on the Lord, for I expected Him to do something. The next thing you know she was walking toward me with the vest. I was so appreciative that she had taken the time and effort to look for it.

She walked me to the cashier area. As she was taking care of the purchase, I took a good look at her and asked the Lord if she might be ready to hear about Him. Before I could finish asking Him, I opened my mouth and asked, “Do you know Jesus as your Saviour?”

“I am from Singapore, and I know that there is something about religion,” she answered.

“Singapore is a wonderful place. I liked visiting there. I loved the food!” I shared with her.

“Oh, you have been there,” she commented, smiling .

“And, yes, there is something about religion that is very different than knowing the Son of God,” I said. She stopped working and looked at me. I continued, “Yes, knowing Jesus as your Saviour and the Lord of your life is not religion. He died on the cross for your sins. He loves you, and He wants you to know Him. Would you like to know Him personally?”

She leaned nearer to me, looking closely into my eyes. “Yes,” she said.

“Let’s pray and ask Him.” As I looked into her eyes, she again leaned closer. She placed the bagged vest down, and we started praying. I was concerned at this point because customers started to come toward us. But God distracted them, and they went in other directions. It was as if they were trying to get to the cashier area, but they couldn’t.

She prayed, believing in Jesus as the Son of God, confessing that she believed in her heart, and confessed with her mouth that He had died and rose again. At His cross, she asked Him for His forgiveness of her sins and gave her life to Him for His glory.

After we were done, there was silence. Neither of us said anything. She then looked at me with tears in her eyes and thanked me. Just then customers began to swarm around the cashier area.

I quickly asked her if she had a Bible. She said that she did. I told her, “Start reading the book of John a little at a time each day and get to know the God who lives inside of you and how much He loves you.”

Had it not been for her looking for that vest and having to wait, I probably would have left the store. But her heart to serve and God’s heart for her soul kept me there by His Spirit.

“Abba, Father, sometimes waiting is a little challenging, but so many times it is You holding us steady and patient while You do what we cannot. Jesus, I thought you might do something while the lady looked for the vest. But it was that very lady whom you were after. I was almost ready to tell someone that she was looking for an item, that it was okay, and that I would stop by again later. But the Holy Spirit kept me still and quiet. Thank You, Lord, for the stillness of Your Spirit that takes control of us even when we grow impatient. What works You are able to do in a heart when we wait on You.”
