“For who in the heaven can be compared unto the Lord? who among the sons of the mighty can be likened unto the Lord?  God is greatly to be feared in the assembly of the saints, and to be had in reverence of all them that are about him. O Lord God of hosts, who is a strong Lord like unto thee? or to thy faithfulness round about thee?”  (Psalm 89:6-8, KJV)

Since I cannot wear shoes with high heels now, I have to shop for shoes with a low, flat heel.

My husband encouraged me to search for a pair at a shoe store that carried shoes especially comfortable.  I really was not interested, but I went with him anyway.

We both searched and searched for just the right pair. My husband asked me to try a pair on. They were so comfortable that I did not want to take them off. We went to the check-out counter. The two young men who were the cashiers were having a conversation.

I was looking at the shoes, as I placed them on the counter. One of the young men, who was an African-American, said, “I swear to God!” Then he stepped back to the counter behind him. The other young man, who was about to help us purchase the shoes, was of Indian descent.

I said, “Never swear by God. It is a very serious thing to do that. When you involve God, it is a scary and very serious thing.”

The young man helping me looked at me. He was silent. The other young man corrected himself, “I swear!” This time he didn’t use the word God.

I said, “Never swear.”

The young man checking out my shoes looked at me again. The other young man made another correction, “I promise!” He was making his corrections, as I made my comments.

The young man who was helping us just looked at me. So, I started talking about Jesus. “Don’t you know God? Do you not know that He has a Son? Do you not know that He gave His Son for you on the cross for your sins and mine? Where are you going when you leave this earth? You will go to heaven or to hell. You don’t want to go to hell, do you?”

He shook his head no.

“Well, how are you going to go to heaven?” I asked him. “Do you know?”

The young man said, “No.”

“Do you want to know?”

He softly said, “Yes.”

“You have to talk with God. His Son is alive. You must believe in Him. Do you want to pray to believe in Jesus as the Saviour of your soul? He is the One who loves you. He is the One who gave His life for you on the cross.”

“Yes, I do,” he responded.

As customers walked around us, we prayed, and this young man believed in Jesus as his Saviour and gave his life to Him.

“Abba, Father, this young man saying what he did, without realizing the seriousness of involving You, simply made me respond as I did. But, Jesus, never did I think that right behind these words, You had a soul! I want to thank You that the young man who made that statement corrected what he said. He was listening with his heart. And the responses that he made got the other cashier’s attention. Only by Your Holy Spirit did this happen as it did. I also want to thank You for my not being able to wear shoes with heels at this time. It took us out to the shoe store, where You had prepared a soul to be with YOU!”
