Our dryer needed repairing. The service man that drove up our driveway was a foreign man. I noticed that a rosary and a photo of some religious background was hanging from the rearview mirror. That gave me an indication that he may be open to the gospel. But I have been so exhausted in the battle of God saving souls that I just didn’t want to enter it again.

The man checked out the dryer and let us know that a part had to be replaced. The dryer is new, so that was not good news. Anyway, he said that he would report it for service and then went on his way.

I knew in my heart that he would be one to whom I should speak about Jesus, but I was just too tired. I needed a break. But he stayed on my mind for the next week.

Later we received notice that the part had been ordered. A week later, a man called us to let us know that he was on his way to repair the dryer. Well, he didn’t make it that day, but came the next. I didn’t recognize his voice as being that of the man who had been here before. Yet, when the man arrived, it was the same man who had been here before. This time I had to take the opportunity to share Jesus with him.

I asked him where he was from. He said that he was from Ethiopia. I told him, “I notice that you have a rosary in your car.”

He responded, “Yes, I am an Orthodox Christian.”

I asked, “Do you know Jesus?”

He said, “Oh yes.”

I continued, “Do you know Him as your personal Saviour, not just the Saviour of the world, but your intimate, personal Saviour?”

He explained, “We have prayers that we pray every morning and every night.”

I responded, “Well, it is good that you pray. But have you ever just talked with Jesus just like you and I are talking right now?”

He was silent for a moment and then said, “No.”

I explained who Jesus is and what He had done on the cross. He listened. Then I said, “I am going to help you talk to Jesus to believe in Him as your personal and intimate Saviour.”

He responded, “Okay.”

We prayed, and this man received Jesus as his Saviour and repented of his sins, giving his life to Jesus for His glory.

Then we talked about praying and talking to God, the father and Jesus directly and reading the Bible. He liked this very much.

“Abba Father, how You draw men unto your son, Jesus! Lord, You brought that man again. When I couldn’t enter the battle the first time he came, You made sure that he would come again! You gave me the courage to speak of You to this man, because of Your pursuit of his soul! Spirit of God, thank You for helping me talk with this man and for preparing this heart to believe in Jesus.”

And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.
